Gabriel Agbonlahor has made no secret of how he’d feel if Manchester United swoop in to sign Ollie Watkins this summer — saying it would be so painful, he’d “move countries.”

Reports this week suggest that United have opened talks to sign the Aston Villa star, with Benjamin Sesko also on their shortlist. However, with Sesko’s price tag rising, Watkins is now being seen as a more realistic alternative.

Agbonlahor, a Villa legend and long-time supporter of the club, delivered his emotional reaction on talkSPORT, making it clear that losing Watkins — especially to United — would be a devastating blow.

Man United Step Up Search for New Striker – Watkins One of Two Names Targeted

United have already signed Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo this summer but are far from finished. A striker remains a top priority for Ruben Amorim, with Watkins and Sesko both seen as ideal options to lead the line at Old Trafford.

According to TBR Football, talks have been held with both camps — and while Sesko remains the more hyped talent, Watkins offers Premier League experience, proven goal output, and homegrown status.

United need a No.9 who can press, finish and stay fit — and Watkins ticks every box.

“Man United, of all clubs, taking Ollie Watkins would really hurt me… I’d move countries,” said Agbonlahor. — talkSPORT

Analyst Verdict: Watkins Is Perfect for United – But Villa Won’t Sell Cheap

This wouldn’t be a panic buy — Watkins is tailor-made for United’s front line. He’s a strong presser, an intelligent runner, and has evolved into a consistent Premier League scorer. Under Amorim’s system, he could thrive off wide service from Mbeumo and Cunha.

The big issue? Aston Villa won’t want to sell. Watkins is 29, in his prime, and seen as a key part of Unai Emery’s push for Champions League qualification.

If United are serious, they’ll need to pay top dollar — and potentially offer players in return to soften the blow.

Key Insights

  • Gabriel Agbonlahor says he’d be devastated if Man United sign Ollie Watkins.

What’s Next for United and Watkins?

United remain locked in talks behind the scenes as they weigh up Watkins against Sesko. No bid has been lodged yet, but Watkins' camp is aware of the interest.

Aston Villa are yet to comment, but if a serious offer comes in, the decision could come down to the player. For now, Agbonlahor and the Villa fanbase will be hoping Watkins stays exactly where he is.

United are crazy if they think that Watkins is cheaper than Sesko.. They can look further, because I dont see or think that Aston Villa will let him leave.
