Enzo Le Fée reveals Sunderland ambition after stunning Liverpool goal

Sunderland midfielder Enzo Le Fée has outlined his ambition to become one of the best players in his position after producing an outstanding display in the Black Cats' 4-2 pre-season defeat to Liverpool.

The Frenchman scored a spectacular long-range effort at Geodis Park and believes playing in a central midfield role is helping him reach another level ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

Le Fée has been deployed in the heart of Sunderland's midfield since the end of last season and admits the consistency has boosted his performances.

Speaking to safc.com, the 26-year-old explained why he is enjoying the role.

"Since the end of last season, I've been playing in the same position so I think it helps me a lot to always be in the same position."

"I like to be in the middle, have the ball and control the tempo."

The French midfielder also revealed his long-term ambition.

"I want to be one of the best players in this position but I have to work even more than I already do."

Le Fée was one of Sunderland's standout performers despite the defeat to Andoni Iraola's Liverpool.

His superb left-footed strike from distance briefly brought the Black Cats back into the contest before Timur Tutierov also found the net later in the match.

The midfielder hopes his goal is the first of many this season.

"It's always nice to score. I don't always score a lot but I want to score more this season."

"It's always good and it was a good goal as well so it was always nice."

Although Sunderland ultimately lost 4-2, Le Fée was pleased with the team's overall display against one of the Premier League's strongest sides.

The midfielder highlighted both the performance and the difficult playing conditions in Tennessee.

"It was tough because it was really hot but I think it was really important to play in this temperature because when we go back, it'll be easier."

"I think we did well and it was a really good first half."

Le Fée also praised Sunderland's younger players after several academy talents featured during the second half.

"Even the second half, the young players did good things as well and scored a really good goal so we keep going for pre-season."

Despite the result, Sunderland manager Régis Le Bris will be encouraged by several individual performances as preparations continue for the new season.

Le Fée's display in midfield, combined with encouraging contributions from younger members of the squad, provided positives to build upon before Sunderland's next pre-season fixture.
