Chelsea are preparing a fresh move for Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott after seeing their opening offer rejected, but the Cherries remain determined to keep one of their most important players ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Blues are continuing talks over a deal for the 22-year-old, who is understood to be interested in making the move to Stamford Bridge after receiving assurances over his role under new head coach Xabi Alonso.

Chelsea return after first bid rejected

According to Chelsea reporter Simon Phillips, Chelsea have renewed their interest in Scott after Bournemouth turned down an initial approach.

Despite rejecting the opening bid, Bournemouth are reportedly willing to continue discussions, although any deal is expected to require a significant fee.

Scott is believed to be open to the transfer after positive conversations with Chelsea over his place in Alonso's plans.

Bournemouth value Scott highly

Bournemouth are reportedly seeking a package worth up to £90 million for the England Under-21 international.

While that figure reflects Scott's long-term potential rather than his statistical output alone, Bournemouth have little desire to sell.

FootballPlace understands head coach Marco Rose considers Scott a key part of his plans for the upcoming campaign and wants the midfielder to remain at the Vitality Stadium as the club prepares for a season that includes European football.

After qualifying for the Europa League, Bournemouth are reluctant to weaken one of the strongest areas of their squad.

Why Chelsea want Scott

Although Scott scored three goals and registered one assist in 37 Premier League appearances last season, his influence extends well beyond attacking statistics.

The midfielder impressed with his pressing, ball progression and ability to dictate the tempo in Bournemouth's midfield.

Chelsea view Scott as a player capable of adding energy, intensity and composure to Alonso's midfield options as they continue rebuilding the squad.

Decision approaching

Chelsea are expected to decide whether to meet Bournemouth's valuation or test the South Coast club with another improved offer.

With Scott keen on the move but Bournemouth determined to keep one of their standout performers, negotiations could become one of the biggest transfer stories of the summer.

Unless Chelsea submit a proposal capable of changing Bournemouth's position, Marco Rose is expected to retain the midfielder for the start of the new season.

What's next?

Chelsea are expected to continue talks with Bournemouth over Alex Scott, but the Cherries remain in a strong negotiating position. Marco Rose wants the midfielder to stay, while Chelsea must decide whether to increase their offer enough to tempt Bournemouth into a sale.
