Nottingham Forest could revive Ramon Hendriks move as Stuttgart talks stall

Nottingham Forest could be given another opportunity to sign Ramon Hendriks after contract negotiations between the defender and VfB Stuttgart reportedly stalled.

According to BILD, Hendriks has broken off talks over an improved deal because Stuttgart’s proposal did not meet his expectations. The 24-year-old remains under contract until 2028, but the uncertainty could create a fresh opening for Forest after their failed January move.

Forest reportedly offered €15 million for Hendriks during the January transfer window, but Stuttgart immediately rejected the proposal.

The situation has now changed. Hendriks joined the Bundesliga club on favourable terms two years ago and is said to earn a salary considered below average within the squad, particularly in relation to his performances.

Stuttgart had planned to reward the Dutchman with an improved contract. Their latest offer is reportedly worth around €2.5 million per year plus a signing bonus, which would place him among the club’s ten highest earners.

However, Hendriks’ representatives have put negotiations on hold.

Stuttgart are said to be surprised by the decision but remain confident that an agreement can eventually be reached. The club hope to finalise a new contract after the summer transfer window closes.

While Stuttgart are not currently pushing Hendriks towards the exit, their position could reportedly change if a club offers around €30 million.

That would be double Forest’s January bid and could force the German side to reconsider their stance.

Stuttgart have also identified a potential replacement. Wolves defender Ladislav Krejčí is reportedly their preferred option if Hendriks leaves this summer.

For Forest, that creates an interesting situation. Their first offer was quickly dismissed, but the breakdown in contract talks means the circumstances are no longer the same.

A move still appears some distance away, and Stuttgart’s priority remains extending Hendriks’ contract. However, until an agreement is signed, Forest may have reason to keep monitoring developments.

The next step depends on whether Stuttgart can restart negotiations with Hendriks and his representatives. If no agreement is reached before the end of the transfer window, interest from Forest or other clubs could become more significant.
