Nottingham Forest winger Omari Hutchinson has been backed to succeed at AC Milan, with Italian journalist Massimo Marianella urging patience as the 22-year-old adapts to Serie A.
Hutchinson joined Milan on a season-long loan in August, with the Italian club holding a reported €40 million option to make the move permanent.
After initially struggling for regular playing time under Ruben Amorim, the England youth international has begun to show signs of improvement.
He provided an assist against Salzburg in the Europa League before scoring his first Milan goal during Sunday's 2–0 victory over Udinese.
Marianella praises Hutchinson's attacking qualities
Speaking to MilanNews, Marianella explained why he believes Hutchinson has the ability to become an important player for the Rossoneri.
"He's a player who can break a game, he has pace, he has the ability to get to the byline, move inside, shoot, get into the box, and spot his teammates," he explained.
The journalist highlighted Hutchinson's speed, movement and versatility, arguing that Milan must give him opportunities to demonstrate those qualities.
Hutchinson joined the Italian club following Rafael Leão's departure to Galatasaray, with Amorim seeking another left-footed attacking option.
Although naturally a winger, he has also been used in wider midfield positions requiring greater defensive responsibility.
Former Arsenal manager's advice offers encouragement
Marianella believes Hutchinson should be given time to adjust to the demands of Italian football.
Referencing former Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger, he suggested players often need around six months to settle after moving abroad.
"For an English player, the Italian league has always been a more difficult step historically," he said.
"But I think that if you give him the opportunity, space, and time, it will prove to be a wonderful idea."
His comments came before Hutchinson's breakthrough performance against Udinese.
Hutchinson makes impact against Salzburg and Udinese
The Nottingham Forest loanee delivered an encouraging display during Milan's 4–0 Europa League victory over Salzburg on 15 October.
He supplied the cross for Alphadjo Cissé's opening goal and created further opportunities as Amorim's side secured a convincing away win.
Hutchinson then made another important contribution against Udinese on Sunday.
After Ardon Jashari's powerful effort was parried by goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, Hutchinson reacted quickest to score Milan's second goal in the 65th minute.
The strike marked his first competitive goal for the Italian club and provided another indication that he is settling into Amorim's system.
Nottingham Forest await €40m decision
Milan's loan agreement with Nottingham Forest runs until 30 June 2027 and includes an option to sign Hutchinson permanently.
Italian reports place the purchase clause at approximately €40 million, alongside an initial loan fee of around €4 million.
The option could reportedly become an obligation if certain conditions are met, although those terms have not been officially disclosed.
For Forest, a permanent move would represent a significant return on the winger, who joined the Premier League club from Ipswich Town in 2025.
