Nottingham Forest could revive Marc Casadó move after Barcelona reject opening offer

Nottingham Forest could reopen negotiations with Barcelona for Marc Casadó after seeing an earlier proposal rejected, with the Spanish champions actively trying to sell the midfielder before the transfer deadline.

Forest have tracked the 21-year-old throughout the summer and have already spoken to Barcelona about a deal. Their initial figures were not considered sufficient, but reports in Spain suggest negotiations could now resume.

Manchester United have also repeatedly been linked with Casadó, although that route currently appears unlikely.

According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Nottingham Forest approached Barcelona earlier in the window and put figures on the table.

Barcelona were not satisfied with what was proposed, preventing talks from progressing at the time.

Forest's interest has not disappeared, though, and Sport reports that negotiations between the clubs could now be revived.

That gives Oliver Glasner's side a potential opening as Barcelona become increasingly determined to resolve Casadó's future before the window closes.

The Catalan club are reportedly looking for around €30million for the Spain international, who is under contract until 2028.

Manchester United have been mentioned regularly among Casadó's potential destinations, but Sport dismisses Old Trafford as a realistic option for now.

Despite reports of interest, United have not made official contact with Barcelona.

Casadó has also attracted lucrative interest from Saudi Arabia. Al-Hilal and Al-Ahli are reportedly prepared to reach around €40m, which would comfortably satisfy Barcelona's demands.

The midfielder, however, does not want to move to Saudi Arabia and is prioritising staying in European football.

His agent Jorge Mendes is now working to find a solution and has reportedly assured Barcelona that he intends to secure a move for his client.

Benfica are another club being considered, although Casadó is not currently their first-choice midfield target.

Their priority remains Bayern Munich's João Palhinha. Should that deal fail, Mendes could attempt to direct Casadó towards Lisbon instead.

AC Milan have also been offered the midfielder but have not pursued the opportunity.

That leaves Nottingham Forest in an interesting position. They have already demonstrated concrete interest and Barcelona are now under greater pressure to sell than when the clubs first held discussions.

Casadó made 24 appearances last season but played only 981 minutes and is not considered a central part of Hansi Flick's plans.

Nottingham Forest must decide whether to return with an improved proposal closer to Barcelona's €30m valuation.

Barcelona's desire to sell and Casadó's refusal to consider Saudi Arabia could strengthen Forest's position as the deadline approaches.

With Manchester United yet to make contact and Benfica currently prioritising Palhinha, Forest have a genuine opportunity to push themselves towards the front of the queue if they reopen negotiations quickly.
