Eintracht Frankfurt are reportedly preparing another attempt to sign Nottingham Forest striker Arnaud Kalimuendo in January, just months after failing to negotiate his permanent return.
The 24-year-old scored six Bundesliga goals during his loan spell in Germany last season, but Frankfurt declined to activate a €27million purchase option.
According to Frankfurter Neue Presse, Kalimuendo remains the Bundesliga club's preferred attacking target, with another loan arrangement potentially under consideration.
Eintracht Frankfurt revive Kalimuendo interest
Kalimuendo joined Forest from Rennes for a reported €30million in August 2025 but struggled for opportunities, scoring twice in 14 appearances before moving to Frankfurt in January.
His loan spell proved more productive, yielding six goals and one assist in 19 Bundesliga matches.
Frankfurt nevertheless allowed their €27million purchase option to expire, hoping to negotiate more favourable terms.
Reports in June suggested the German club valued Kalimuendo at around €20million, below Forest's demands.
Further negotiations during the summer also failed, leaving the striker at the City Ground.
That financial disagreement remains central to any renewed approach.
Oliver Glasner previously blocked striker's exit
Forest manager Oliver Glasner reportedly wanted Kalimuendo to stay following his appointment, while owner Evangelos Marinakis rejected Frankfurt's proposed deal.
Adi Hütter subsequently expressed his frustration over the unsuccessful negotiations.
"We tried everything. But it didn't work because of the other side," Hütter said.
However, Kalimuendo has remained on the fringes of Forest's squad.
He has accumulated just 110 minutes across five competitive appearances this season, despite returning from a productive spell in Germany.
His contract runs until June 2030, giving Forest considerable control over any potential departure.
Frankfurt prepare January transfer strategy
Frankfurt are targeting reinforcements at centre-forward and full-back, with Kalimuendo reportedly their leading attacking candidate.
German reports suggest another loan, potentially including an option or obligation to buy, could be explored.
Such an arrangement would allow Frankfurt to revisit a transfer they previously considered too expensive, although Forest would still need to accept the financial terms.
There is no confirmation of a new offer or agreement.
Key Points
- Frankfurt are considering another Kalimuendo move.
- He scored six Bundesliga goals during his previous loan.
- Frankfurt declined a €27million purchase option.
- Forest's valuation prevented a summer agreement.
- Another loan arrangement is reportedly possible.
What's Next?
Frankfurt must determine whether a revised financial package can satisfy Forest before January.
Kalimuendo's limited playing time could encourage further discussions, but his contract until 2030 means the Premier League club retain negotiating leverage.
