Newcastle United striker Nick Woltemade has expressed confidence in Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti after scoring in the Italian club's 2-1 Europa League victory over Celta Vigo.
The Germany international has endured a difficult start to his loan spell in Turin, failing to secure a Serie A start and prompting speculation that Juventus could send him back to Newcastle in January.
However, his latest European performance suggests he could yet establish himself in Spalletti's plans.
Woltemade responds to Juventus struggles with crucial goal
Woltemade started Thursday's Europa League encounter against Celta Vigo and scored an important second-half goal to help Juventus secure victory.
It was his second goal of the campaign, following a penalty against NEC Nijmegen.
Speaking to Sky after the match, in comments reported by Tuttosport, the 24-year-old described it as his strongest performance for the club.
"I think I played my best game for Juve tonight. I did some good things, I can do better, but I'm happy with the goal, which always gives confidence. I want to keep pushing."
Woltemade has largely been restricted to substitute appearances in Serie A, with Randal Kolo Muani preferred in attack.
Nevertheless, the Newcastle loanee remains supportive of Spalletti's decisions.
"I have faith in my coach, I think every choice he makes will be the right one," he said.
Newcastle watching as Juventus loan future remains uncertain
Woltemade also believes he can form an effective partnership with Kolo Muani rather than simply competing with him for one starting position.
"Yes, I like playing with Kolo – an excellent player and striker, in general with two strikers the defense can only focus on one."
The German's improved performance comes amid reports that Juventus have been exploring alternative attacking options.
That has fuelled suggestions of a possible January return to St James' Park, although no decision has been confirmed.
For Newcastle, Woltemade rediscovering his goalscoring form would be encouraging regardless of whether he completes his loan or returns to England.
Regular opportunities and consistent performances could help rebuild his confidence while protecting his transfer value.
