Newcastle United’s transfer window is spiralling — Here’s every target they’ve missed

Newcastle United’s summer transfer window has gone from promising to panic-inducing — fast.
What should have been a landmark window ahead of their Champions League return is turning into a catalogue of missed opportunities.

So far, only Anthony Elanga has arrived, and Alexander Isak’s desire to leave is threatening to unravel what’s left of the plan. With Liverpool circling, Newcastle risk losing their best forward — while seeing nearly every major target go elsewhere.

Newcastle were strongly linked with Liam Delap — a smart, Premier League-ready striker available for just £30m. Alan Shearer even publicly backed the move.

But concerns over limited minutes behind Isak, and Chelsea’s aggressive pursuit, saw Delap join the Blues instead. Now, Newcastle could lose Isak too — leaving them with neither.

After a 10-goal Premier League season with Brighton, Joao Pedro looked like a tailor-made addition: versatile, technical, and available. He could have supported or replaced Isak.

But instead, Chelsea pounced again, spending £60m on the Brazilian. For Newcastle, it was another miss. No deal. No plan B.

Newcastle turned to Ekitike after several failed pursuits — but just as talks began, Liverpool hijacked the deal.

Ekitike joined the Reds for £79m. Ironically, Liverpool still want Isak — and the Swedish striker reportedly wants the move. Newcastle are now watching both forwards slip away.

This one hurts. Trafford was Eddie Howe’s preferred goalkeeper signing — more composed on the ball than Nick Pope, and targeted well in advance.

But Newcastle dragged their feet on price, and just as they finally struck a deal, Man City matched the offer and brought Trafford back to the Etihad. A painful example of hesitation costing them again.

The final insult — for now. RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko is one of the hottest No.9s in Europe, and Newcastle pushed hard to sign him.

But multiple reports, including from Jan Aage Fjortoft and Ben Jacobs, now confirm: Sesko prefers Manchester United, where he’s been assured of a central role under Ruben Amorim. Newcastle are out — again.

This isn’t just bad luck — it’s poor planning, delayed action, and a lack of negotiating power.

Newcastle are missing out on targets not because they can’t attract players, but because bigger clubs are simply moving faster and smarter. The fact that even planned targets like Trafford and Delap slipped through suggests something deeper is wrong.

With Champions League football on the horizon, the pressure is now sky-high. If Isak leaves and no big names arrive, Newcastle fans could see this as one of the most mismanaged windows in the club’s modern history.

Newcastle now face a critical few weeks to rescue their summer. With Alexander Isak still pushing for a move and Liverpool expected to return with an improved offer, a replacement striker may become a top priority.
