Newcastle United remain firmly in contention for a remarkable conclusion to what has already been a landmark season.
Fresh off ending a 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy by lifting the Carabao Cup last month, the Magpies could yet crown their campaign with Champions League qualification. Their 3-0 win over Leicester City on Monday night saw them reclaim fifth spot in the Premier League, sitting just behind Chelsea in fourth place on goal difference.
Despite the celebrations that followed their cup success, concerns over a potential drop in league form were quickly addressed. Eddie Howe’s side have secured six points from the two Premier League matches since their Wembley triumph—though the performances have not been vintage.
Sandro Tonali’s decisive goal against Brentford, which he later admitted was a mishit cross, secured a narrow victory in a tightly contested fixture. The subsequent win over struggling Leicester was more comfortable on paper, though Newcastle appeared to lose intensity in the second half.
Speaking to the BBC after the game, manager Eddie Howe delivered a stern message to his players:
"I don’t think we were at our very best today. We certainly need an upturn in performance if we’re going to win the next three."
Howe’s comments serve as a timely reminder, with difficult fixtures against Manchester United, Crystal Palace, and Aston Villa on the horizon. While Newcastle will be favoured heading into the weekend, both Palace and Villa present serious challenges.
Pundits remain optimistic about Newcastle's top-four hopes. Jamie Carragher has tipped the club to reach the Champions League, citing their game in hand as a crucial advantage. Craig Bellamy has also predicted the Magpies will finish above Nottingham Forest, further fuelling belief that a European return is within reach.
With momentum behind them and the possibility of returning to Europe’s elite competition, Newcastle United have everything to play for in the final stretch of the season.

Newcastle is in form, they seem to have a easy fixture based on the "rivals" for the CL-spot.
