Newcastle €10m short in final Matías Fernández-Pardo offer

Newcastle United are struggling to break Lille’s resistance over Matías Fernández-Pardo, with their latest offer reportedly falling €10m short of the French club’s asking price.

The Magpies have already seen one proposal rejected and returned with an improved package worth €60m including bonuses.

However, Lille president Olivier Létang is refusing to lower his demands and wants €70m for the Belgium international.

Newcastle initially submitted an offer worth around €40m including bonuses, but Lille quickly rejected that approach.

Matthias Jaissle’s side subsequently prepared what was described as their final offer, increasing the package to €60m.

According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, that has still not been enough.

Lille are standing firm at €70m, leaving Newcastle with a significant decision to make during the final days of the transfer window.

Lille are negotiating from a position of strength.

Fernández-Pardo remains under contract until 2029 and has developed into an important attacking option capable of playing both through the middle and from the left.

The 21-year-old has registered 12 goals and 11 assists in 71 appearances since returning to Lille from KAA Gent in 2024.

There is also little financial pressure on Lille to sell.

The Ligue 1 club are already in the process of selling Ayyoub Bouaddi to Manchester City for €100m, strengthening Létang’s position when negotiating another major departure.

That leaves Newcastle with an uncomfortable €10m gap to bridge.

Their €60m package is already a substantial increase on the original €40m proposal, but Lille have shown no indication that they are prepared to compromise.

With less than a week remaining in the transfer window, Newcastle must now decide whether Fernández-Pardo is worth another major financial push or whether to walk away and pursue an alternative.
