Newcastle United have been offered Botafogo midfielder Danilo as Arsenal continue their pursuit of Bruno Guimarães, with the two transfer situations closely linked through the players' representatives.

The Magpies remain determined to keep their captain despite growing interest from Arsenal, but Danilo has already been suggested as a potential replacement should Newcastle eventually agree to sell one of their most influential players.

Danilo proposed as Bruno alternative

According to reports in ESPN Brazil, Bruno Guimarães and Danilo are represented by the same agency, Bertolucci Sports, which is involved in Arsenal's attempts to sign the Newcastle midfielder.

While Arsenal are pushing for Guimarães, the agency has also presented Danilo to Newcastle as a possible successor if circumstances change later in the transfer window.

At this stage, Newcastle have not made a formal approach for the Botafogo star, and the proposal is understood to have come from the player's representatives rather than the club.

Arsenal still face major obstacle

Reports suggest Arsenal have already submitted an offer worth around £65 million (€75 million) for Guimarães, but Newcastle remain firm in their valuation, which is believed to be closer to £100 million (€116 million).

Meanwhile, Botafogo are reportedly prepared to listen to offers for Danilo in the region of €35-40 million, although no formal bids have yet been received.

The Brazilian club have also ruled out selling the midfielder to domestic rivals, leaving European clubs as the most likely destination if he departs.

Key Points

  • Newcastle have been offered Botafogo midfielder Danilo.
  • Danilo and Bruno Guimarães share the same representatives.
  • Arsenal remain interested in signing Guimarães.
  • Newcastle reportedly value their captain at around £100 million.
  • Botafogo are seeking €35-40 million for Danilo.

What's next?

Newcastle's plans remain dependent on Bruno Guimarães' future. If Arsenal fail to meet the club's valuation, a move for Danilo is unlikely to progress. However, should Newcastle's stance change before the transfer deadline, the Botafogo midfielder is already positioned as a potential replacement.

Should Newcastle sell Bruno Guimarães if Arsenal meet their asking price, or is he simply too important to lose?
