Marcus Rashford has admitted he wants to remain at Barcelona beyond this season after helping the Catalan giants clinch the La Liga title with victory over Real Madrid.
The England international scored the opening goal in Sunday’s decisive El Clásico clash as Barcelona secured a 2-0 win at Camp Nou to officially become Spanish champions.
Rashford’s stunning early free-kick set the tone before Ferran Torres added a second to seal one of the most significant league victories in recent Barcelona history.
It marked the first time since 1932 that the La Liga title has been decided directly in El Clásico.
Rashford thriving in Spain
Since arriving on loan from Manchester United FC last summer, Rashford has rediscovered the form that once made him one of Europe’s most dangerous forwards.
The 28-year-old has contributed 14 goals and 14 assists in all competitions during a hugely productive campaign under Hansi Flick.
Having struggled for consistency and minutes under former United manager Ruben Amorim, the move to Spain has revitalised his career.
Speaking after the title triumph, Rashford made his feelings about staying in Barcelona clear.
“I don’t know, I’m not a magician but if I was, I would stay at Barcelona.”
The forward also spoke about the importance of finally winning a league title for the first time in his career.
“Really good, I came here to win. I want to win as many things as I can.”
Barcelona future still uncertain
Despite Rashford’s desire to stay, uncertainty remains around whether Barcelona will activate the option to make the move permanent.
The Spanish club reportedly hold a £26 million purchase clause, but recent reports suggest they are hesitating over the overall financial package involved.
Manchester United are understood to have resisted attempts to renegotiate the fee downward.
That leaves Barcelona facing a significant decision ahead of the summer transfer window.
Having followed Rashford’s resurgence closely this season, his performances have clearly strengthened his case for a long-term future in Spain.
However, Barcelona’s financial situation continues to complicate several transfer plans.
Manchester United preparing for major decision
Back at Old Trafford, Rashford’s long-term future increasingly appears uncertain.
The academy graduate has spent more than two decades associated with Manchester United, but the club are believed to be open to a permanent sale this summer.
Interim manager Michael Carrick has not completely closed the door on a return, although current indications suggest both sides may now be ready for a permanent separation.
There has also been speculation linking Rashford with Arsenal FC if a Barcelona agreement cannot be reached.
However, it remains too early to know whether Barcelona will ultimately commit to the deal financially.
Rashford’s revival changes perception
Few players in Europe have reshaped their narrative more dramatically this season.
After leaving Manchester United under difficult circumstances, Rashford has become a major contributor in one of Europe’s biggest dressing rooms while helping deliver a league title.
That success has strengthened both his reputation and market value heading into the summer.
What’s next?
Barcelona must now decide whether to activate Rashford’s permanent option or continue negotiating alternative terms with Manchester United.
For Rashford, the preference appears obvious.
The coming weeks could determine whether his Spanish revival becomes a long-term chapter or simply a successful loan spell.
Should Barcelona sign Marcus Rashford permanently after his LaLiga-winning season?
