Manchester United could land a double transfer windfall this summer – without selling a single player of their own.

The Man United transfer windfall 2025 boost comes as Álvaro Carreras nears a £43m move to Real Madrid from Benfica, and Anthony Elanga edges closer to Newcastle in a £55m Premier League switch.

United inserted sell-on clauses when selling both players last year. Now, those smart decisions could hand Ruben Amorim a £16.6m bonus to spend — potentially reigniting their stalled pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo.

Carreras to Real Madrid: United Set for Cash Boost?

Benfica left-back Álvaro Carreras is reportedly close to joining Real Madrid in a deal that could hit €50m (£43m).

United sold the Spaniard last summer for just £5m, but cleverly included a sell-on clause. If it's a straight 20% of the fee, United could bag £8.6m.

Even if it’s 20% of the profit (Benfica's £38m gain), they’d still earn £7.6m — a big win for zero effort.

Elanga to Newcastle: Surprise Premier League Bonus

Carreras isn’t the only former Red Devil on the move.

Anthony Elanga, now at Forest, is said to be close to a £55m transfer to Newcastle. United sold him for £15m last summer — but included a 20% sell-on clause on profit.

That could see them receive £8m, topping up the club’s unexpected windfall to over £16m.

Transfer Windfall Breakdown Amount
Álvaro Carreras sell-on (20%) £8.6m (max)
Anthony Elanga sell-on (20%) £8m
Total Potential Windfall £16.6m

Analyst Verdict

Carreras and Elanga were quietly sold with smart clauses in 2024 — and it could now pay off big. The timing is crucial too, with United's own bids for Bryan Mbeumo and others stalling due to budget constraints. This surprise £16.6m cash injection could change everything.

Key Slights

  • Álvaro Carreras set for £43m move to Real Madrid — with United due up to £8.6m
  • Anthony Elanga to Newcastle could trigger another £8m payout
  • Combined £16.6m windfall lands at perfect time for Mbeumo bid
  • Amorim’s strategy quietly benefits from past deals

What’s Next?

Manchester United are still pushing for Bryan Mbeumo, and this windfall could fund an improved third bid. Amorim’s midfield rebuild also continues, with a left-footed centre-back still on the radar.

Could Elanga-to-Newcastle really fund Mbeumo-to-United?
