Manchester City could renew their pursuit of Chelsea right-back Malo Gusto in January, with Enzo Maresca reportedly keen to reunite with his former player.
The 23-year-old France international was linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium during the summer, but Chelsea's valuation proved a major obstacle.
According to TEAMtalk, City remain interested and could revisit a deal if the Blues lower their asking price.
Manchester City monitoring Gusto's availability
Chelsea reportedly demanded around £70 million for Gusto during the summer transfer window, a figure City were unwilling to meet.
Earlier reports suggested the Manchester club hoped to negotiate a deal closer to £50 million.
TEAMtalk now claims Chelsea have softened their financial demands, potentially creating an opportunity for renewed discussions in January.
However, no revised asking price has been confirmed, and there is no indication that City have submitted a fresh offer.
The proposed move also faces uncertainty because potential sanctions relating to City's ongoing financial-rules case could affect their January recruitment plans.
Maresca interested in Chelsea reunion
Maresca worked with Gusto during his time at Stamford Bridge and reportedly remains an admirer of the defender's versatility.
The Italian previously praised his performances, saying: "Malo is doing fantastic."
Gusto's ability to operate as a conventional right-back, move into midfield or contribute further forward makes him an attractive option for Maresca's system.
Reports earlier this year suggested the Frenchman would welcome the opportunity to work with his former manager again.
However, his current intentions have not been publicly confirmed.
Chelsea have options at right-back
Gusto faces considerable competition under Xabi Alonso, with Reece James, Marco Palestra and Josh Acheampong among Chelsea's options on the right.
Pedro Neto has also been deployed at right wing-back this season, giving Alonso additional tactical flexibility.
Despite that depth, selling Gusto would strengthen a direct Premier League rival.
The defender is under contract until June 2030, meaning Chelsea have no immediate contractual need to accept a reduced offer.
Their decision may therefore depend on the size of any proposal and whether Alonso believes the squad can accommodate his departure.
