Hamburger SV’s pursuit of Luka Vušković has entered a tense holding pattern, despite the Bundesliga newcomers having already agreed personal terms with the 18-year-old centre-back. The German club are keen to bring the Tottenham prospect in on loan before the end of the week, but Spurs are yet to give the green light.
Club CEO Stefan Kuntz and sporting director Claus Costa remain in contact with the player’s camp but have not received clarity from North London. For now, Spurs are said to be weighing up the “best option” for the Croatian defender’s development — without imposing any internal deadline on making a decision.
Player Quote – Frustration Mounts in Hamburg
In Germany, patience is wearing thin.

HSV have already begun talks with two alternative centre-back targets in case Tottenham’s decision drags on too long.
Tottenham’s Perspective
Vušković, signed as a long-term project, has been absent from Spurs’ UEFA Super Cup squad against Paris Saint-Germain — a strong hint that a loan is on the table. However, Thomas Frank and his staff appear determined not to rush into any arrangement that doesn’t guarantee the right competitive environment for the teenager.

Analyst Verdict
Vušković is widely regarded as one of Croatia’s most promising defensive talents — strong in the air, composed in possession, and tactically mature beyond his years. A loan to HSV could accelerate his development, but Tottenham’s reluctance to rush the decision shows their intent to carefully manage a player seen as part of their long-term future.
Key Insights
- Hamburger SV have an agreement with Vušković but no Spurs approval yet.
- Tottenham have not set a decision deadline.
- HSV are now speaking with alternative targets.
- Vušković was left out of Spurs’ UEFA Super Cup squad.
What’s Next
Tottenham are expected to reassess Vušković’s loan options after the Super Cup, with Hamburg still the leading contender. If a decision isn’t made this week, HSV may pivot to other defenders — potentially closing the door on this move for good.
Should Tottenham let Vušković join Hamburg now — or keep him in England for closer development?

I think Spurs are keeping him for now until the match against PSG. After that he'll move on loan probably, but it's annoying for the kid as well. Because he has to settle for HSV because their competition starts as well soon.
