Nottingham Forest eye Lucas Bergvall as Elliot Anderson replacement

Nottingham Forest are reportedly weighing up a move for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall as they prepare for the possible departure of Elliot Anderson this summer.

Manchester City continue to pursue Anderson after failing with previous offers, and while Forest remain determined to keep one of their standout performers, contingency planning is already underway.

One player increasingly linked with a move to the City Ground is Bergvall, the highly-rated Sweden international who is reportedly considering his future in North London.

Anderson has become one of Forest's most important players and remains a priority for the club heading into the new season.

However, sustained interest from Manchester City has created uncertainty around his future.

With Pep Guardiola's side expected to return with further offers, Forest are assessing potential replacements should they eventually lose the England midfielder.

His preference is to play as a box-to-box No.8, where he can influence matches through his energy, technical quality and ability to carry the ball forward.

Having followed his development closely, there is little doubt that regular starts in that position would accelerate his progress.

On paper, the fit appears logical. Technically capable midfielders who can transition quickly between defence and attack.

Bergvall possesses those attributes in abundance.

Perhaps more importantly, Forest could offer him something Tottenham currently cannot: a clearer pathway to regular starts in central midfield.

That opportunity may become increasingly attractive if Tottenham continue recruiting experienced players ahead of him in the pecking order.

However, securing a deal will not be easy.

Tottenham recently tied Bergvall to a long-term contract running until 2031 and are reportedly seeking around £45 million for the midfielder. The club also remain open to keeping him if no suitable offer arrives.

This is the question many Spurs supporters are already asking.

Bergvall is widely regarded as one of Sweden's greatest emerging talents and remains one of the most promising young midfielders in Europe.

Allowing him to leave now carries obvious risks.

If he develops as expected elsewhere, Tottenham could find themselves watching a future superstar flourish for another club.

That is why any potential sale would almost certainly involve a substantial fee and perhaps additional protections such as a sell-on clause.

Forest's interest is likely to depend heavily on developments surrounding Anderson. If Manchester City eventually secure their primary target, Bergvall could quickly move higher up Forest's shortlist.

For Tottenham, the priority remains deciding whether Bergvall's long-term potential outweighs the immediate benefits of a sizeable transfer fee. Given his age, talent and contract situation, Spurs remain in a strong position regardless of which path they choose.
