Ipswich challenge Hull for Luca Pellegrini after direct transfer talks

Ipswich Town have reportedly joined Hull City in the race to sign Lazio left-back Luca Pellegrini this summer.

Hull had already held direct discussions over a potential move for the 27-year-old, but reports from Italy now claim Ipswich are also monitoring his uncertain situation in Rome.

Espanyol and Deportivo La Coruña have also been linked with Pellegrini, creating an increasingly competitive transfer race for the experienced defender.

Hull appear to be the most advanced English club in the pursuit after previously holding direct talks over a possible transfer.

Ipswich have now emerged as another contender, while Espanyol are believed to have added Pellegrini to their shortlist. The Spanish club admire his experience but are aware Hull and Ipswich could have a financial advantage if the race develops.

Pellegrini's future remains uncertain after a difficult end to last season. The defender featured in only four Serie A matches from March onwards and finished the campaign with around 1,400 minutes across all competitions.

That lack of regular football has increased speculation over a summer departure.

Much will depend on how Lazio reshape their squad under new manager Rino Gattuso.

The Italian club's absence from European competition could lead to further changes, while Pellegrini's contract situation makes this a realistic window for a permanent transfer.

His versatility adds to his appeal. Pellegrini is primarily a left-back but can also operate as a wing-back or move into midfield, giving interested clubs several tactical options.
