Liverpool confirm Alejandro Rosalen appointment as Iraola completes coaching staff

Liverpool have confirmed the appointment of Alejandro Rosalen as their new first-team goalkeeping coach, completing another key addition to Andoni Iraola's backroom staff ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The Spaniard arrives following the departure of Xavi Valero at the end of the 2025/26 campaign and becomes the latest figure to join Liverpool as Iraola continues reshaping the club's coaching structure after his arrival from Bournemouth.

Liverpool confirmed Rosalen's appointment in an official club statement, highlighting the extensive experience he has built across European football.

The 39-year-old spent the last five seasons at Napoli, where he played a role in the club's Serie A title-winning campaigns in 2022/23 and 2024/25. Before moving to Naples, he worked for eight years with Fiorentina after a spell at Hungarian side Videoton.

Rosalen began his coaching career in Valencia's academy, spending eight years developing young goalkeepers before moving into senior football.

His appointment adds another experienced specialist to Liverpool's coaching department as Iraola prepares for his first campaign in charge.

Rosalen is the latest arrival in what has been a significant overhaul behind the scenes at Anfield.

Earlier this month, Liverpool confirmed the appointments of Tommy Elphick, Shaun Cooper and Pablo de la Torre, who all followed Iraola from Bournemouth. Analyst Tom Webber also made the move from the south coast as part of the new coaching team.

The additions underline Liverpool's commitment to giving Iraola a familiar support network as he implements his methods ahead of the new Premier League season.

Rosalen will immediately begin working with a talented goalkeeping group led by Alisson Becker, alongside Giorgi Mamardashvili and Freddie Woodman.

Liverpool will hope his arrival helps improve the club's defensive record after a mixed 2025/26 campaign. Alisson kept 13 clean sheets in 35 appearances across all competitions, while Mamardashvili recorded three shutouts in 20 matches, including an impressive UEFA Champions League clean sheet against Real Madrid during the league phase.

The Brazilian goalkeeper is expected to join Liverpool's pre-season tour of the United States later than his teammates after helping Brazil reach the FIFA World Cup last 16.

Rosalen's experience of working with elite goalkeepers and title-winning squads is expected to prove valuable as Liverpool look to challenge for major honours under Iraola.

Liverpool's coaching team is now largely in place ahead of the new campaign, allowing Iraola to focus fully on pre-season preparations. Rosalen will begin integrating his methods during the summer programme, although Alisson's delayed return due to World Cup commitments means he will initially work with Mamardashvili, Woodman and the club's younger goalkeepers before the full squad is reunited in the United States.
