Manchester United defender Lisandro Martínez has reassured supporters that he is fully focused on recovering from injury after Argentina's defeat in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.

The 28-year-old suffered another injury during the tournament, adding to the disappointment of missing out on football's biggest prize with his country.

However, Martínez has already turned his attention to returning for Manchester United and has thanked supporters for their backing throughout his latest setback.

Martínez thanks fans for their support

In a video message shared after the World Cup, Martínez expressed his gratitude to everyone who had sent messages during his recovery.

"First of all, I want to thank everyone for the messages and the support during this difficult moment," Martínez said.

"I can see that many of you are disappointed and I know many of you have been praying for my speedy recovery. That means the world to me."

The centre-back admitted Argentina's defeat was painful but insisted he is determined to come back stronger.

Focus already on Manchester United return

Martínez revealed his rehabilitation is already underway, with his sole objective being a return to full fitness before the new campaign.

"Losing with Argentina in the World Cup hurt a lot, but these things happen in football," he explained.

"Injuries are part of the game, and right now I'm focused on getting back to 100%."

The Manchester United defender added that every day of his recovery is being driven by his desire to return stronger.

"I'm working hard every day to come back stronger for the new season with Manchester United."

Another setback after difficult injury spell

The latest injury comes after Martínez had only recently re-established himself in Argentina's national team.

The defender returned to international football after spending 598 days away because of successive injuries before earning his place once again in Lionel Scaloni's starting XI for the World Cup.

Despite the latest setback, Martínez's message suggests he remains fully committed to returning at his best.

Message for Old Trafford

Martínez also reserved special praise for Manchester United supporters, highlighting the bond he has built since arriving at Old Trafford.

"This club and the fans have given me everything," he said.

"I can't wait to give it back on the pitch. Thank you for the love. See you soon at Old Trafford."

His comments underline his determination to recover fully and make a positive impact for United once he returns to action.
