Leeds United push for Tarik Muharemović as Oumar Solet remains option

Leeds United are continuing their search for defensive reinforcements, with Sassuolo centre-back Tarik Muharemović emerging as the club's leading target while Udinese defender Oumar Solet remains under consideration.

Daniel Farke is keen to add another central defender capable of strengthening the back line ahead of the Premier League campaign.

Reports from Italy suggest Muharemović has moved ahead of Solet in Leeds' thinking, although both players remain on the club's shortlist.

According to reports, Leeds have received encouragement from Muharemović over a potential move to Elland Road.

While The Athletic suggests discussions have not yet developed into formal negotiations, Fabrizio Romano reports that Leeds are currently leading the race for the 23-year-old and have already secured the player's approval.

Attention now turns to agreeing a transfer fee with Sassuolo.

One interesting aspect of the deal is Juventus' involvement. The Turin club reportedly retain a 50 per cent sell-on clause, meaning they would receive half of any future transfer fee agreed between Leeds and Sassuolo.

If a move for Muharemović proves difficult, Leeds could yet switch their focus to Oumar Solet.

The Udinese defender has attracted interest from several clubs after an impressive campaign in Serie A, with the Italian side believed to value him at around €30 million.

Leeds are understood to have maintained contact with the Frenchman's representatives as they continue assessing their defensive options.

Solet's physical presence and experience in a back three make him another player well suited to Farke's tactical approach, although his valuation represents a significantly greater financial commitment.

Leeds' return to the Premier League has increased the need for greater depth and quality in defence.

Farke increasingly relied on a three-man defence during the latter stages of last season, and adding another athletic, ball-playing centre-back would provide greater competition alongside Bijol and the club's existing options.

Muharemović also fits Leeds' recruitment model. At 23, he offers long-term potential while already possessing valuable experience in Serie A, making him an attractive investment if a deal can be agreed on suitable terms.

Leeds are expected to continue negotiations with Sassuolo as they attempt to reach an agreement for Muharemović. If talks stall over the transfer fee, attention could quickly shift towards Solet, although Udinese's €30 million valuation may prove a significant obstacle.
