Leeds United revive Nico Elvedi pursuit with €8.5m offer planned

Leeds United are reportedly ready to reignite their pursuit of Borussia Monchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi, with Daniel Farke once again targeting a player he knows well from his Bundesliga connections.

The Swiss international has been linked with a move to Elland Road on several occasions in recent years, but fresh reports from Germany suggest Leeds are now preparing a concrete offer worth €8.5 million.

With Elvedi entering a crucial stage of his contract situation, this summer may finally provide the opportunity for a transfer that has previously failed to materialise.

Since arriving at Leeds, Farke has repeatedly looked towards Germany when strengthening his squad.

Several of his key signings have come from the Bundesliga, reflecting both his extensive knowledge of the market and his confidence in players already proven in German football.

According to reports from Germany, Elvedi is the latest name to re-emerge on Leeds' shortlist.

Three years later, another Premier League opportunity has emerged.

The 29-year-old is currently enhancing his reputation with Switzerland at the World Cup and is believed to view the tournament as an ideal platform to attract interest from abroad.

Although BILD suggests Leeds' valuation may not immediately satisfy Borussia Monchengladbach, the German club's negotiating position is not as strong as it once was.

With Elvedi approaching the final stages of his contract cycle, delaying a sale carries risks.

Should he remain and fail to sign an extension, his market value could decrease significantly over the next 12 months.

That reality may eventually encourage Borussia Monchengladbach to adopt a more pragmatic approach if Leeds formalise their interest.

However, it remains unclear what fee the Bundesliga side would ultimately demand before approving a transfer.

Leeds must now decide whether to transform their interest into a formal offer. If they do, Borussia Monchengladbach will be forced to determine whether retaining Elvedi for another season outweighs the financial benefits of a sale.

The player's World Cup performances could also influence the situation. Strong displays for Switzerland may attract additional suitors and strengthen his bargaining position. For now, though, Leeds appear to be leading the race for a defender who has been on Farke's radar for a considerable time.
