Leeds United goalkeeper Lucas Perri has received glowing praise from Torino manager Ignazio Abate after producing his best performance since joining the Italian club on loan.

The Brazilian endured a difficult start to life in Serie A following his late-summer departure from Elland Road, but his fortunes appear to be improving.

Perri played a key role in Torino's convincing 3-0 victory over Parma on Monday, recording his first clean sheet for the club and making an important first-half save to preserve their advantage.

His performance could also provide encouragement for Leeds, who negotiated a €16 million purchase option as part of the loan agreement.

Torino manager explains Perri's difficult start

Perri faced criticism in Italy after making several mistakes during his opening appearances, with Torino also struggling to secure positive results.

However, Abate has defended the 28-year-old, highlighting the circumstances surrounding his arrival.

"Perri arrived in the last few days [of the window]. He arrived after an injury, he wasn't in perfect shape," Abate told Sky, as reported by Gianluca Di Marzio.

"He arrived in a new country and a new league, it's not easy."

The Torino manager also praised the goalkeeper's professionalism and attitude, insisting he had always maintained confidence in the Brazilian.

Perri's performance against Parma suggested that patience is beginning to pay off.

Giovanni Simeone, who scored twice in Torino's victory, was particularly impressed by Perri's display.

"Perri played a great match," the Argentine told Sky.

"He's too big, when he's in goal you don't know where to shoot."

Perri also expressed his satisfaction after securing his first clean sheet, crediting Torino's goalkeeping coaches for helping him improve.

"I'm very happy with the victory, we deserved this clean sheet," he told DAZN.

The goalkeeper's progress is significant for Leeds, who will be hoping his performances persuade Torino to activate their purchase option.
