Isaac Schmidt looks set to leave Leeds United this summer, with his agent confirming that the full-back is searching for regular football ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

The 25-year-old joined Leeds from Swiss side FC St. Gallen 79 last year, but made just 71 minutes of league action in a campaign where the Whites sealed automatic promotion. Now, his agent says playing time – not money – will decide his next move.

“We’ll Find a Solution” – Agent Hints at Exit

Schmidt’s agent, Baykal Bellusci, spoke to Swiss outlet Blick and strongly hinted that the defender is on his way out.

“In a World Cup year, the top priority isn’t finances – it’s about finding where you can play most,” said Bellusci. “I’m convinced we’ll find a very good solution for him this summer.” — Baykal Bellusci

Schmidt has already made three appearances for Switzerland, starting friendlies against the USA and Northern Ireland. But if he wants to go to the World Cup, he needs regular minutes at club level.

A Leeds Spell That Never Took Off

Signed for €3m in the summer of 2024, Schmidt was seen as useful depth for Daniel Farke’s defence. He started twice in the FA Cup but featured only as a late sub in 12 league games, playing most of his time out of position.

Bellusci revealed that the switch from left-back to right-back was part of the plan: it helped boost Schmidt’s national team chances and improve his market appeal. But it didn’t lead to more game time at Leeds.

Why a Move Makes Sense Now

Leeds are back in the Premier League, and competition for full-back places will be fierce. Schmidt needs minutes – and 2025/26 is make-or-break if he wants to be in Switzerland’s World Cup squad.

He’s now entering his prime years, and a move to another European club could give him the platform to shine.

What’s Next for Leeds?

Schmidt’s exit would open up a spot in the full-back rotation. Leeds may dip back into the market, especially with added Premier League demands. Several fringe players could follow Schmidt out the door.

Should Leeds cash in on Schmidt now – or loan him to build value?
