Bologna have confirmed they promised Jhon Lucumi he could leave this summer after blocking Sunderland's attempt to sign the defender a year ago.
The Colombia international was the subject of a formal bid from Sunderland during the 2025 summer transfer window, but Bologna refused to sanction a deal before the deadline. Club CEO Claudio Fenucci has now revealed the Serie A side assured the defender they would consider a sale this year if the right offer arrived.

Speaking to Pallone nel 7, as quoted by Il Resto del Carlino, Fenucci admitted Bologna's stance has changed since last summer.
"A year ago, we couldn't sell him at the end of the transfer window, but we promised him that this year, given a suitable offer, we'd make it happen."
The Bologna chief also suggested the situation remains open, with no concrete bids currently on the table.
"The transfer window hasn't really taken off yet, and if it didn't for Lucumi either, we'd be happy to keep him."
