Leeds United could be forced to pay up to €30million for Jean-Mattéo Bahoya once the winger reaches ten competitive appearances for the club.
The 21-year-old joined Leeds on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt at the end of the summer transfer window but has barely featured during Daniel Farke's impressive start to the season.
Bahoya has played just one minute so far, coming on during the 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace. However, that brief appearance could prove significant because it already counts towards the clause that can turn his loan into a permanent transfer.
Nine more appearances would trigger permanent deal
According to BILD, Eintracht sporting chief Markus Krösche negotiated an obligation that becomes active once Bahoya makes ten competitive appearances for Leeds.
Crucially, there is reportedly no minimum number of minutes required for an appearance to count.
That means Bahoya's brief outing against Palace was appearance number one, leaving him nine away from triggering a permanent transfer worth up to €30m.
Frankfurt would also retain a 15% sell-on clause, potentially making the agreement even more lucrative for the Bundesliga club if Bahoya eventually moves elsewhere.
Farke faces delicate selection situation
Bahoya's limited involvement does not necessarily mean Leeds are deliberately managing his appearances because of the clause.
Farke's team have simply started the Premier League season extremely well and remain one of only five unbeaten sides, making it difficult for the Frenchman to force his way into a settled team.
However, the contractual details could become increasingly relevant if Bahoya approaches the ten-game threshold without establishing himself as an important player.
Leeds will effectively have to decide whether triggering a deal worth up to €30m represents good value.
Bahoya therefore has a clear opportunity whenever his next chance arrives: convince Farke that his performances justify not only additional minutes, but potentially a significant permanent investment from Leeds.
