Jamie Carragher believes Nottingham Forest manager Oliver Glasner could face the sack before Christmas despite showing signs of progress at the City Ground.
The former Liverpool defender has questioned whether Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis will give Glasner sufficient time to turn around the club's difficult start to the Premier League season.
Speaking to Sky Austria, Carragher suggested that Forest's history of managerial changes makes Glasner's position particularly vulnerable, even though he remains convinced the Austrian can succeed.
Carragher questions Marinakis' patience with Glasner
Glasner arrived at Nottingham Forest during the summer after leaving Crystal Palace, where he enjoyed considerable success by winning the FA Cup and Europa Conference League.
However, his first months at Forest have proved challenging.
The club have collected just one victory from their opening seven Premier League matches, losing four and slipping into the relegation zone.
Despite those results, Carragher believes Forest have shown enough quality to suggest an improvement is possible.
"The only problem Glasner has is who the owner is," Carragher said.
He added that a managerial change during the next international break or around Christmas would not be surprising given Marinakis' record of dismissing coaches.
Carragher stressed that his concerns were not necessarily a reflection of Glasner's abilities, but rather the pressure associated with managing Forest.
Glasner backed to end Nottingham Forest trophy drought
Carragher also believes Glasner's reputation for winning silverware explains why Marinakis appointed him.
The Austrian previously enjoyed success at Eintracht Frankfurt before guiding Crystal Palace to major trophies.
Forest have not won a major trophy since lifting the League Cup under Brian Clough in 1990.
Carragher believes Glasner could help end that wait if he receives sufficient backing.
"I think if he's given enough time he can take Forest to a trophy," he said.
Glasner has already outlined his ambitions to establish Forest among the Premier League's stronger clubs, pointing to plans to expand the City Ground's capacity to 45,000.
He has also identified Aston Villa's recent progress as an example of what Forest could eventually achieve.
