Inter Milan have renewed contact with Curtis Jones' representatives as they work on the structure of a new offer to Liverpool for the midfielder.

Jones remains a priority target for Inter manager Cristian Chivu, with the Italian club having pursued the England international since January.

According to Fabrizio Romano, fresh discussions with the player's agents took place on Tuesday as Inter consider their next move.

The significant development is that Liverpool's asking price has reportedly dropped to around €30m, potentially bringing an agreement closer.

Inter hold fresh Curtis Jones talks

Jones has missed Liverpool's recent pre-season friendlies because of a hip problem, although his future also remains the subject of significant transfer speculation.

Inter have already reached an agreement with the midfielder over personal terms.

The proposed deal would reportedly see Jones sign a five-year contract worth €5m per season.

Inter's latest contact with his representatives was intended to reiterate that they remain committed to signing him.

Bringing Jones to San Siro would use the second and final non-EU squad slot available to Inter during the current transfer window, making the decision an important one for their remaining business.

Liverpool asking price drops to €30m

The second purpose of the discussions was to work on the structure of an offer that could convince Liverpool to sell.

Liverpool are now reportedly prepared to accept around €30m for the midfielder.

Jones' contractual situation is an important factor. His current deal expires in June 2027, reducing Liverpool's leverage if he continues to resist extending his stay at Anfield.

Inter are therefore studying how to formulate their next proposal before returning to Liverpool.

The Nerazzurri have already spent months laying the groundwork for the transfer, with Jones effectively lined up as one of their major midfield targets since the January window.

Key Points

  • Curtis Jones remains Inter's priority midfield target.
  • Inter have held fresh talks with his agents.
  • Jones has already agreed personal terms on a five-year contract.
  • His proposed salary is reportedly €5m per season.
  • Liverpool's asking price has reportedly fallen to around €30m.
  • Jones' current Liverpool contract expires in June 2027.

  • Signing Jones would use Inter's final non-EU squad slot this summer.

What's Next?

Inter's next step is to finalise the structure of their proposal and return to Liverpool with an offer.

With personal terms already agreed and Liverpool's valuation reportedly dropping to around €30m, the remaining obstacle is an agreement between the clubs.

If Inter can find the right formula, their six-month pursuit of Jones could finally move towards a conclusion.
