Ibrahim Sangaré has been praised for committing his long-term future to Nottingham Forest after signing a new contract that will keep him at the City Ground until 2029.

The Ivory Coast international has been rewarded following an impressive 2025/26 campaign, during which he re-established himself as a key figure in Forest's midfield.

Former Ivory Coast international Romaric believes the new deal is recognition of Sangaré's growing importance under Oliver Glasner.

Romaric praises Forest midfielder

Speaking to Africa Foot, Romaric said Sangaré's new contract reflects the progress he has made since arriving from PSV Eindhoven in 2023.

"This proves that Ibrahim has established himself as a leader," he said.

"Extending a contract in the Premier League, especially in a position as demanding as midfield, is never a given.

"This is the ultimate proof that Ibrahim Sangaré has established himself as a true leader within the club."

Romaric added that Sangaré's difficult start at Forest only makes his achievement more impressive.

"His beginnings weren't easy, but his strength, tactical discipline and work rate eventually won everyone over."

Reward after breakthrough season

Sangaré joined Nottingham Forest from PSV Eindhoven in a deal worth around £30 million in 2023.

After mixed fortunes during his first two seasons, the 28-year-old became an important part of the first team last season, making 43 appearances in all competitions.

His new contract signals Forest's belief that he will remain a key player under Glasner moving forward.

Staying put despite transfer interest

Sangaré attracted interest from both Galatasaray and Beşiktaş over the past two transfer windows.

However, the midfielder chose to remain at Nottingham Forest rather than pursue a move elsewhere.

Romaric believes that decision will also benefit the Ivory Coast national team.

"The Premier League is the most competitive league in the world," he said.

"By choosing to stay at Nottingham Forest, Ibrahim secures crucial stability at the highest level.

"For the Elephants, this is excellent news. We need a fulfilled, settled and confident Sangaré to guide our midfield."

What this means

Nottingham Forest have secured one of their most experienced midfielders for the long term. After establishing himself under Oliver Glasner, Sangaré is expected to play a central role as Forest look to build on last season and continue progressing in the Premier League.
