Harvey Elliott U21 Euros Player of the Tournament: those seven words say it all.
Liverpool’s young talent took centre stage in Germany this summer, scoring five goals and driving England to the title. But while Elliott dominated headlines on the pitch, his Liverpool future remains clouded under new boss Arne Slot.
Despite being a favourite under Jurgen Klopp, Elliott’s minutes dried up last season. He often found himself watching from the bench, with others getting the nod. Even as fans called for his involvement, Slot’s decisions suggested otherwise.
Now, after lifting the U21 trophy and bringing home the tournament’s biggest individual award, Elliott may have made the most powerful case possible – either for a return to Liverpool’s plans or a big-money move elsewhere.
“I Just Want to Play” – Elliott Makes Statement with His Feet
“I just want to play football – wherever that is. But I’ve dreamed of doing it for Liverpool since I was a kid.” — Harvey Elliott
That emotion echoed through Elliott’s performances at the U21 Euros. Whether cutting in from the right or drifting into central areas, he looked every inch the creative leader England needed.
And while Liverpool have signed Florian Wirtz to bolster midfield options, it’s Elliott who’s currently delivering results.
Can Slot Find a Place for Elliott in Liverpool’s Midfield?
Under Klopp, Elliott often played as a right-sided No.8 or wide forward. Slot’s system, however, prefers pace and verticality — something Elliott doesn’t always offer.
But with matches piling up and multiple competitions ahead, can Slot really afford to overlook a player of Elliott’s quality?
If Curtis Jones earned his place through this same tournament in 2023, why can’t Harvey do the same now?

Analyst Verdict
Elliott’s tournament was elite. His ability to dictate play, glide past defenders and score goals shows a maturity beyond his years. But Liverpool’s tactical shift under Slot complicates his role. A loan or sale with a buy-back clause could be the smartest compromise.

So, Gravenberch, Szobos, Alexis, Wirtz, Jones and Elliott.. Thats a good depth but I do understand that he wants to play every single week - though call for Liverpool.
