Liverpool legend Phil Thompson believes Leeds United pulled off one of the bargains of the summer by signing Harry Wilson on a free transfer, following another impressive display from the Welsh winger.
Wilson played a key role in Leeds' dramatic 4-2 comeback victory over Liverpool in Sunday's pre-season friendly, helping transform the game after coming on at half-time.
The 29-year-old was introduced alongside Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Brenden Aaronson and Sean Longstaff with Leeds trailing 2-0, as Daniel Farke's side produced a remarkable second-half turnaround.
Phil Thompson praises Leeds signing
Speaking to LFCTV, Thompson described Wilson as one of the standout additions of the summer transfer window.
"He had a great season last year. I suspect there would have been a few teams wanting to sign him, so for him to go to Leeds, I just think it's a great acquisition."
The former Liverpool defender also highlighted Wilson's creativity as well as his goalscoring ability.
"It's not just the goals he scores, it's the assists as well. He is a player who last season played with confidence, and he's a real threat when he's at the top of his game."
Thompson added: "He's incredible to watch at times. He's got great quality."
Wilson helps inspire Leeds comeback
Although Wilson is still waiting for his first Leeds goal, his impact against his former club was widely praised.
Operating from the right wing, the Wales international consistently drove at Liverpool's defence and created dangerous situations as Leeds overturned a two-goal deficit.
Aaronson, Longstaff and Calvert-Lewin all found the net, with the latter scoring twice, but Wilson's introduction was viewed as one of the biggest turning points in the match.
Leeds hoping form continues
Wilson arrives at Elland Road after enjoying the best Premier League season of his career with Fulham.
The winger registered 10 goals and seven assists during the 2025/26 campaign, earning Fulham's Player of the Season award before joining Leeds as a free agent.
His encouraging pre-season form gives Daniel Farke hope that he can become a key figure as Leeds prepare for their return to the Premier League.
