Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario demands pay rise for Juventus move

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario is reportedly pushing for a significant salary increase as talks over a potential move to Juventus gather pace this summer.

The Italy international has emerged as Juventus' preferred goalkeeping target after alternative deals proved difficult to complete, with Aston Villa's Emiliano Martínez and Roma's Mile Svilar both appearing increasingly out of reach.

While the player is keen on returning to Serie A, agreeing personal terms could yet prove one of the biggest hurdles.

According to Italian transfer expert Alfredo Pedullà, Juventus have now identified Vicario as their number one target between the posts.

The Turin club had explored moves for Emiliano Martínez and Mile Svilar but have encountered significant obstacles in both negotiations.

As a result, attention has shifted firmly towards the Tottenham goalkeeper.

Discussions have already taken place with Vicario's representatives, with the 29-year-old understood to be open to leaving north London.

Although Vicario is keen on a return to Italy, he is also looking to improve his salary.

The report claims the goalkeeper had previously agreed terms worth €3.5 million per season after tax during negotiations with Inter Milan.

Now, Juventus have been informed that Vicario wants €4 million net per season before agreeing to the move.

That increase could complicate negotiations.

One of the reasons Juventus initially viewed Vicario as an attractive option was because his expected salary demands were lower than those of other goalkeeping targets.

Juventus has generally sought financially sustainable deals rather than committing to the highest earners in the squad. Vicario's revised demands therefore create an interesting dilemma, particularly as Juventus are already expected to pay Tottenham a significant transfer fee.

Even if Juventus reach an agreement with the player, negotiations with Tottenham may not be straightforward.

Spurs are expected to demand a sizeable fee for the Italian international, who remains under contract and continues to attract interest across Serie A.

Inter Milan had previously reached personal terms with Vicario before abandoning their pursuit in favour of Josep Martínez.

Now Juventus appear ready to revive the goalkeeper's hopes of returning to Italy, although several financial issues still need to be resolved before a deal becomes realistic.

Juventus must now decide whether they are prepared to meet Vicario's salary demands before progressing negotiations with Tottenham. If personal terms are agreed, attention will quickly shift towards whether Spurs are willing to negotiate a transfer fee for one of their senior goalkeepers.
