Roma have stepped up their pursuit of Givairo Read by submitting an improved offer to Feyenoord, with the Serie A club now awaiting a final response from the Dutch side.

Gian Piero Gasperini has identified the right-back position as one of his top priorities before the transfer window closes and has urged the club's hierarchy to strengthen his squad with a dynamic wide defender capable of adding greater athleticism and attacking quality.

According to Sky Sport, Roma's latest proposal is worth €25 million plus a further €3m in bonuses, a package the club believe is sufficient to strike an agreement with Feyenoord.

Roma waiting on Feyenoord response

The improved bid is expected to be Roma's final attempt to sign the highly-rated Dutch defender.

Club officials are now waiting to discover whether Feyenoord will accept the proposal or continue to hold out for a higher fee. The response will determine whether negotiations move towards a full agreement or whether Roma switch their attention elsewhere before the transfer deadline.

Read has emerged as Gasperini's preferred option to strengthen the right side of his defence as the experienced coach continues reshaping his squad ahead of the new Serie A campaign.

Read has already agreed personal terms

Roma have already received encouragement from the player's camp, with Read understood to have given his approval to the move.

The 20-year-old is keen to join Gasperini's project in the Italian capital, meaning personal terms are not expected to present an obstacle if the clubs can reach an agreement.

Negotiations remain focused solely on the transfer fee, with Feyenoord and Roma still working to bridge the gap before any deal can be finalised.

Alternative targets identified

Roma are not prepared to allow negotiations to drag on indefinitely and have already identified alternative options should talks collapse.

Nahuel Molina and Ivan Fresneda remain under consideration as potential alternatives if Feyenoord reject the latest proposal or continue to demand a significantly higher fee.

For now, however, Read remains the club's priority target as Roma await a decisive answer from Rotterdam.

What comes next?
