Givairo Read responds to Nottingham Forest transfer interest after Roma move collapses

Nottingham Forest's hopes of signing Givairo Read have suffered a setback after the Feyenoord defender admitted he expects to remain in Rotterdam this season despite strong interest from the Premier League club.

Forest have made multiple offers for the highly-rated right-back in recent weeks after Roma abandoned their pursuit, but the 20-year-old insists he has never been desperate to leave Feyenoord and remains happy at the Eredivisie side.

Read was asked about Roma's failed attempts to sign him after the Serie A club opted to complete a move for Atletico Madrid full-back Nahuel Molina instead.

While the collapse of that deal reignited Nottingham Forest's hopes of landing the Dutch youngster, Read made it clear he has no regrets over staying put.

"I wasn't actually disappointed. It could have gone either way," Read told ESPN.

"As I've said before, I didn't have to leave Feyenoord; I wasn't here on loan. I'm happy to be here. Of course, it was an opportunity, but whether I'd call it a missed opportunity… you know what I mean. Ultimately, I'm just happy to be here."

Although Read stopped short of completely ruling out a late transfer, he admitted the most likely outcome is staying at Feyenoord for another campaign.

"It could still happen, but it really looks like I'll be staying here this season.

"We're playing in the Champions League, and I know I still have a lot of room for improvement. Those are two really important things to experience this season."

His comments suggest regular Champions League football and continued development are currently taking priority over a move abroad, despite growing interest from several European clubs.

Forest have identified Read as one of their leading defensive targets this summer, but his latest remarks indicate Feyenoord are under little pressure from the player to negotiate a sale.

The Dutch club have already rejected several offers during the transfer window and have consistently maintained their high valuation of one of their brightest young talents.

Nottingham Forest must now decide whether to return with another improved offer or switch their attention to alternative right-back targets before the transfer window closes. Feyenoord remain in a strong negotiating position, while Read's expectation is that he will continue his development in Rotterdam unless a significant breakthrough occurs in the coming weeks.
