Newcastle and Tottenham make Giorgio Scalvini enquiries as Atalanta set €50m price

Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur have both made enquiries over Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini, but the Serie A side have made it clear they will only consider offers worth at least €50 million.

The highly-rated Italy international has long been admired by clubs across Europe and is once again attracting Premier League interest following another impressive campaign in Bergamo.

However, Atalanta are determined to keep one of their most valuable assets unless an exceptional offer arrives before the transfer window closes.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, both Newcastle and Tottenham have contacted Scalvini's representatives to assess the possibility of a move this summer.

At this stage, neither club has submitted a formal offer to Atalanta, with the initial discussions focused on the player's willingness to consider a switch to the Premier League.

Only after receiving encouragement from the player's camp would either club be expected to open negotiations with the Italian side.

The report states Atalanta sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli and the club's hierarchy have received no official bids for Scalvini.

Their position is already clear.

Any club wishing to sign the 22-year-old must submit an offer of at least €50 million, with Atalanta unwilling to negotiate below that figure.

The Serie A club view Scalvini as a cornerstone of Maurizio Sarri's long-term project and have no desire to sanction his departure unless presented with what they consider an irresistible proposal.

Whether either Premier League club is prepared to meet Atalanta's valuation remains uncertain.

Tottenham have already strengthened their defence significantly this summer, meaning any move for Scalvini could depend on the future of Cristian Romero, who continues to attract interest from abroad.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have funds available following the departure of Sandro Tonali, but they have also invested heavily in other areas of the squad during the current transfer window.
