Gary Lineker believes Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler has the potential to become one of the world's leading coaches, but has questioned whether a future move to Manchester United would be the right decision for his career.
The former England striker praised the 33-year-old on The Rest Is Football podcast following Brighton's 5-0 victory over Crystal Palace on Sunday, which lifted the Seagulls to third in the Premier League.
Lineker backs Hürzeler to become one of world's best coaches
Lineker recently interviewed Hürzeler and was impressed by the German's tactical understanding, communication skills and confidence.
"I was very impressed with the way he spoke, and his confidence without being arrogant," Lineker said.
"I think he's got the potential to be one of the absolutely top coaches in world football."
Lineker also praised Brighton's recruitment operation, highlighting the club's ability to identify players through intelligent spending and effective use of data.
He believes that structure provides Hürzeler with an environment in which he can continue developing as a manager.
Manchester United move raises questions
The podcast discussion also turned to whether Hürzeler should consider Manchester United if an opportunity arose.
Lineker questioned whether leaving Brighton's established football operation would necessarily benefit the German's career.
Alan Shearer pointed to Graham Potter's unsuccessful spell at Chelsea after leaving Brighton as an example of the difficulties managers can encounter when moving to a bigger club.
Hürzeler signed a Brighton contract extension until 2029, and the discussion did not establish that Manchester United had made an approach for him.
Richards backs Brighton for Champions League challenge
Micah Richards believes Brighton have a realistic chance of qualifying for the Champions League this season.
The former Manchester City defender praised the club's training facilities and the pathway it provides for academy players to reach the first team.
"I think Champions League football is a realistic target for them – I don't think [they are] winning the league," Richards said.
Shearer also highlighted Hürzeler's ability to manage the demands of the job beyond tactics, including dressing-room relationships, player confidence and media pressure.
Brighton's victory over Palace strengthened their position near the top of the table, with Hürzeler's side scoring 23 goals in their opening seven Premier League matches.
