Brighton midfielder Facundo Buonanotte has explained why he feels more at home in Spain than England after joining Elche on a season-long loan.

The 21-year-old Argentine has praised the connection between supporters and players in Spanish football, admitting it reminds him of his homeland.

Despite Elche's difficult start to the La Liga season, Buonanotte believes his latest move offers the right environment to rediscover his best form.

Buonanotte compares Spanish and English football

Speaking to Argentine broadcaster DSports, Buonanotte revealed how quickly he settled into life at Elche following previous loan spells with Leicester City, Chelsea and Leeds United.

He particularly appreciates the atmosphere surrounding the club and the relationship between players and supporters.

“People are close to you here. They always give you that passion which you perhaps lose a little in England.”

The Brighton youngster stressed that English supporters are also passionate, but believes football culture in Spain feels closer to Argentina.

“Here they’re more like us. They show it to you at the stadium, they show it to you in the street.”

His comments reflect a personal preference rather than criticism of his former clubs.

Brighton loanee faces challenge at Elche

While Buonanotte is enjoying his surroundings, results have been less encouraging.

Elche sit 18th in La Liga with five points from seven matches, recording one victory, two draws and four defeats.

The Argentine has featured in four league games, contributing a goal against Athletic Bilbao and an assist against Racing.

However, he remained on the bench during Elche's 3-1 victory over Espanyol before the international break.

Regular playing time will be important after several loan spells in which he struggled to establish consistency.

Argentina return remains a major ambition

Buonanotte also discussed his desire to represent Argentina again, describing his previous involvement with Lionel Scaloni's squad as a career highlight.

He believes strong performances for Elche could eventually earn him another international opportunity.

“Obviously, I have faith that I’ll return and get another chance to show what I can do.”

For Brighton, the priority will be seeing their midfielder turn his improved comfort and confidence into sustained performances in Spain.
