Fabian Hürzeler opens door to another Vuskovic joining Brighton

Fabian Hürzeler has praised Luka Vuskovic’s impact at Brighton and suggested the club could eventually consider bringing his brother Mario to the south coast as well.

Luka joined Brighton from Tottenham in a €54million summer deal after an impressive loan spell with Hamburg. The 19-year-old has quickly become an important option for Hürzeler, who believes his mentality separates him from many players of the same age.

Speaking to Sky Germany, the Brighton manager highlighted both Vuskovic’s potential and his willingness to improve.

“He wants to improve every single day,” Hürzeler said. “Very few players his age have that kind of attitude. It speaks to his maturity.”

The Brighton boss accepts there are still moments when Vuskovic’s age and inexperience become apparent, particularly when it comes to maintaining consistency.

However, Hürzeler believes the Croatian has the potential to develop into a top-level defender.

“He integrates extremely well into the team and, for his age, already takes on a great deal of responsibility,” he added. “That’s why we’re very happy to have him.”

Vuskovic had established himself as one of the Bundesliga’s standout young defenders during his spell with Hamburg, who had hoped to keep him and unite him with older brother Mario.

Tottenham instead decided to sell Luka, with Brighton ultimately securing his signature.

Mario, 24, has recently returned to training with Hamburg following a lengthy doping suspension and must now attempt to rebuild his career.

Asked whether Brighton could eventually consider signing him, Hürzeler refused to dismiss the possibility.

“I think if the numbers are good, anything can happen,” he said, pointing towards Brighton’s data-driven recruitment model.

Hürzeler stressed that Mario’s immediate priority must be performing consistently for Hamburg after such a long absence. He has, however, heard positive reports about the defender’s physical condition.

For now there is no indication that Brighton are actively pursuing Mario. But Hürzeler has made clear that strong performances and the right data could potentially put another Vuskovic on the club’s radar.

Luka will continue his development at Brighton after making an encouraging start to life on the south coast.

Mario’s immediate challenge is very different. He must rebuild his rhythm and performances with Hamburg before any potential move becomes realistic, with Hürzeler making clear that Brighton would need to see the numbers to justify further interest.
