Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has admitted his side are conceding avoidable goals after a 1-0 home defeat to Brighton left them with consecutive Premier League losses.
Yasin Ayari struck in the 11th minute after Matheus Nunes failed to deal with a low cross, leaving City to rue another costly defensive mistake.
Despite creating chances, Maresca's side could not find an equaliser against a resilient Brighton defence.
Maresca highlights costly defensive errors
Reflecting on the defeat, Maresca drew comparisons with City's previous Premier League loss at Aston Villa.
"It's a very similar feeling to what we had after the Aston Villa game," he explained.
"We created enough to get some points but we didn't score."
The Italian was particularly frustrated by the nature of Brighton's winner, which came after Nunes failed to clear Diego Gómez's delivery.
"At this moment we are probably conceding silly goals that we can avoid and hopefully avoid them in the next game," Maresca admitted.
Ayari took advantage, finishing from close range after the ball deflected off Maxim De Cuyper.
City fail to make chances count
City controlled much of the contest after falling behind but struggled to turn possession into clear-cut opportunities.
Iliman Ndiaye went close, while Nunes forced a save from Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen in the second half.
Maresca acknowledged that mistakes happen but suggested they have become too frequent in recent matches.
"Probably in the last two or three games it happened many times against us," he said.
Brighton defended their advantage and secured their first away league victory against City.
Maresca calls for response
The defeat left City top of the Premier League on goal difference, although Arsenal could overtake them on Sunday.
Maresca made clear that the recent results have disappointed everyone at the club.
"The players, me, the coaching staff, the club. No one is happy when we lose games," he acknowledged.
City must now address their defensive lapses and improve their finishing to prevent their poor run from continuing.
