Nottingham Forest are yet to make the decisive proposal required to sign Fiorentina right-back Dodo, despite previous reports suggesting the clubs were moving towards an agreement worth €10m plus bonuses.
Forest have made their interest clear, but fresh information from Italy suggests the transfer is not as advanced as previously believed.
Fiorentina are also considering extending Dodo's contract if Forest fail to complete the deal quickly.
Forest yet to meet Fiorentina demands
Earlier reports from La Nazione indicated the clubs had reached an understanding over a package of €10m plus bonuses, with personal terms still to be resolved.
Friday's Corriere dello Sport, however, reports there is currently no final club-to-club agreement.
Fiorentina want €10m plus bonuses for the Brazilian, but Forest have yet to meet those demands after making their approach.
Oliver Glasner's side are instead described as “carefully considering” their next move.
That leaves the transfer open, with Forest needing to decide whether to return with the proposal Fiorentina are waiting for.
Fiorentina consider Dodo contract extension
There is another factor potentially adding pressure to negotiations.
Dodo's current contract expires in 2027, which has contributed to his relatively low valuation. Fiorentina do not want that contractual situation to weaken their negotiating position further.
If no agreement with Forest is reached, the Serie A club could offer the 27-year-old a one-year extension until 2028.
That would give Fiorentina greater protection over the player's value and reduce the possibility of being forced into an even cheaper sale later.
The conflicting reports suggest Forest and Fiorentina may have reached a verbal understanding over the basis of a deal without anything being formally completed.
Forest weighing up right-back options
Forest's hesitation could also be significant given their wider search for a right-back.
The club have also been linked with Celta Vigo defender Javi Rueda, who has a €30m release clause and is reportedly being offered more than double his current salary to move to the City Ground.
Dodo would be the cheaper option based on Fiorentina's demands.
From a sporting perspective, the Brazilian's ability to repeatedly attack down the right could suit Glasner's use of wing-backs, although there are questions over the defensive side of his game.
