Tottenham are still waiting for Liverpool to respond to their offer for Cody Gakpo, leaving the Netherlands international uncertain about where he will be playing after the transfer window closes.

Spurs have reportedly offered more than €69m for the 27-year-old and have been working on the deal for several weeks. Gakpo has also held talks with Tottenham and is said to have an agreement in principle with Roberto De Zerbi's side.

Liverpool have not rejected the proposal, but they have yet to give Tottenham a definitive answer.

Liverpool hesitate over Tottenham's Gakpo offer

Dutch journalist Rik Elfrink reports that Gakpo has reached a crossroads as Liverpool continue to consider their position.

“Cody Gakpo is at a crossroads in his career: Tottenham is eyeing the attacker, but Liverpool is hesitant,” he reported.

According to Algemeen Dagblad, Tottenham have already submitted their proposal and Gakpo is keen on making the move.

The problem for Spurs is that Liverpool are still working on their own attacking recruitment, which could directly determine whether Gakpo is allowed to leave.

The Reds have been linked with Paris Saint-Germain attackers Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye, although recent reporting suggests their interest in Mbaye is unlikely to progress beyond the exploratory stage.

Liverpool have also pursued Yankuba Minteh, but Brighton reportedly rejected a €58m offer.

Incoming transfer could decide Gakpo future

Liverpool's search for another winger appears to be a key factor behind their reluctance to make an immediate decision.

“Gakpo still hasn’t received complete clarity about his future,” the Dutch report states. “Liverpool are still working on incoming transfers, which could significantly influence the Dutchman’s future with the club.”

Gakpo has also given Liverpool reason to reconsider selling him.

Earlier this month, he produced an impressive performance in a friendly victory over Como, scoring the opening goal before assisting Jérémy Jacquet.

That display reportedly created further doubts among Liverpool's decision-makers about whether accepting Tottenham's offer is the right move.

For Spurs, the situation is increasingly about waiting. Their offer remains on the table, Gakpo is open to joining De Zerbi and Liverpool have not rejected the proposal.
