Nottingham Forest are one step away from signing Fiorentina right-back Dodô after reaching an agreement worth €10m plus bonuses with the Serie A club.

Forest have been searching for a new right-back and have now made significant progress for the 27-year-old Brazilian after walking away from their pursuit of Feyenoord defender Givairo Read.

According to reports in Italy, the agreement between Forest and Fiorentina is effectively in place. The remaining task is reaching personal terms with Dodô, with negotiations over his salary already underway.

Nottingham Forest agree €10m+ Dodô deal

Italian outlet Sport Mediaset reports that Fiorentina have agreed to sell Dodô to Forest for €10m plus bonuses.

That represents a concrete breakthrough following several days of negotiations between the clubs.

Dodô's contractual situation has helped Forest's pursuit. His Fiorentina deal expires in 2027 and attempts to secure an extension have failed, leaving the Italian club willing to sell rather than risk losing him for nothing next year.

Local newspaper La Nazione also reports that the Brazilian is on the verge of moving to the City Ground.

Forest now need to complete negotiations with the player himself before the transfer can be finalised.

Personal terms the final obstacle

The agreement with Fiorentina means Forest have essentially completed the club-to-club part of the operation.

Salary negotiations with Dodô are described as the "only thing missing" before a total agreement can be reached.

There is confidence that those discussions will be successfully concluded and that the right-back will subsequently move to England.

Dodô would arrive after a season in which he remained a major part of Fiorentina's first team. He accumulated 3,907 minutes across 47 appearances, contributing two goals and three assists.

That combination of experience and availability at a relatively modest transfer fee appears to have convinced Forest to move decisively.

Forest moved to Dodô after Givairo Read setback

Right-back has been one of Nottingham Forest's priorities during the summer transfer window.

Givairo Read had been the preferred target, but negotiations with Feyenoord failed to produce an agreement.

Forest submitted offers for the highly-rated defender, only for Feyenoord to reject their approaches and maintain a valuation the Premier League club considered too expensive.

Rather than continue negotiations at those figures, Forest decided to walk away.

That appears to have helped accelerate their move for Dodô, who provides a more experienced alternative and is available for considerably more favourable terms because of his contract situation.

For Oliver Glasner, the Brazilian would add an attacking full-back with significant experience in Serie A and European football.

Key Points

  • Forest have agreed a deal worth €10m plus bonuses with Fiorentina for Dodô.
  • Personal terms are now the final major step before the transfer can be completed.
  • Dodô played 47 matches and 3,907 minutes for Fiorentina last season, scoring twice and providing three assists.
  • Forest previously prioritised Givairo Read, but walked away after Feyenoord demanded too much.
  • Dodô's Fiorentina contract expires in 2027, strengthening Forest's negotiating position.

What's Next?

Forest and Dodô must now finalise the player's salary and personal terms before the transfer can move towards completion.

With Fiorentina already accepting the financial package and confidence surrounding negotiations with the Brazilian, Forest appear close to finally solving their right-back search.

Has Nottingham Forest made the right call by signing the experienced Dodô for around €10m rather than meeting Feyenoord's demands for Givairo Read? Have your say.
