Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has admitted he would like to play in La Liga before the end of his career, although he has made clear that his immediate priority is winning trophies with the Gunners.

The Spain international discussed the possibility of returning to his homeland during an interview with Spanish newspaper Marca, where a potential future move to Real Madrid was also raised.

Raya, 31, has spent his entire senior club career in English football, having moved to England as a teenager. Despite establishing himself at Arsenal and representing Spain internationally, he has never played professionally in his country's top division.

David Raya opens door to future La Liga move

Raya made no attempt to hide his interest in experiencing Spanish football, although his comments did not suggest he is preparing to leave Arsenal.

“Yes, I’d love to, I’d love to experience La Liga,” Raya told Marca, in comments reported by Sport Witness.

“For now, I’m very happy here, but I would definitely like to try playing in the Spanish league.”

The goalkeeper described La Liga as a competitive league and acknowledged that playing in Spain would hold personal appeal.

His comments point towards a longer-term career ambition rather than an immediate transfer plan. Raya remains focused on Arsenal, where he has established himself as a key figure under Mikel Arteta.

Real Madrid suggestion draws no commitment from Raya

The interview also touched on the possibility of Raya eventually joining Real Madrid.

When the interviewer suggested that wearing white suited him, an apparent reference to Madrid's traditional colours, Raya laughed rather than engaging with the transfer suggestion.

There is no indication in the reported interview that Real Madrid have approached Arsenal or that discussions over a potential move have taken place.

Madrid's goalkeeping situation nevertheless provides context for the question. Thibaut Courtois, now 34, is approaching the later stages of his career, although the Belgian remains an established figure at the Spanish club.

Any suggestion that Raya could eventually succeed Courtois is speculative. His willingness to play in La Liga does not amount to a declaration of interest in joining Real Madrid specifically.

Arsenal trophies remain Raya's immediate priority

Despite acknowledging his interest in Spanish football, Raya was emphatic when asked about his objectives with Arsenal this season.

“To win everything,” he said.

“We want to establish ourselves as favourites, that’s our objective.”

Raya also expressed his desire to lift the Champions League trophy, underlining his determination to continue competing for major honours in north London.

For Arsenal, the distinction between a future ambition and an active transfer situation is significant. Raya has expressed an interest in eventually experiencing La Liga, but nothing in his comments indicates that he wants to bring his Arsenal career to an immediate end.

Key Points

  • David Raya has confirmed he would like to play in La Liga during his career.
  • The Arsenal goalkeeper says he remains happy in north London.
  • Raya laughed off an indirect suggestion about a possible move to Real Madrid.
  • No transfer negotiations or formal interest from Madrid were identified in the reported interview.
  • Winning major trophies with Arsenal remains Raya's immediate objective.

What's Next?

Raya's comments do not signal an imminent transfer, with the goalkeeper continuing to prioritise Arsenal's pursuit of major honours.

A move to Spain would become a more concrete possibility only if his circumstances at Arsenal changed or a Spanish club pursued a transfer. For now, the Real Madrid connection remains speculation arising from the interview rather than a reported negotiation.
