David Datro Fofana looks set to leave Chelsea permanently this summer, with OGC Nice and Toulouse locked in a transfer battle for the 22-year-old, according to L'equipe.
Fofana, who joined from Molde FK in January 2023, has made just four first-team appearances for the Blues, spending the last two seasons on loan at Union Berlin, Burnley and Göztepe.
With his contract at Stamford Bridge running until 2029, Chelsea are keen to secure a permanent fee rather than another loan. Sources in France suggest the club value him at €4-5m, with salary coverage also part of negotiations.
Ligue 1 Rivals Circle for Fofana
Nice see Fofana as the ideal replacement for Evann Guessand following his move to Aston Villa, and initial talks have included the possibility of a loan with salary split. Toulouse, meanwhile, are prepared to meet Chelsea’s asking price but are struggling to match the Ivorian’s current wages.
“Fofana’s profile fits perfectly for a team needing pace and directness in attack,” said a Ligue 1 scout familiar with his time in Turkey.

Analyst Verdict
Chelsea’s approach is clear — cash in now while his market value holds, rather than commit to another loan that delays an inevitable sale. For Nice, the challenge is meeting Chelsea’s financial demands while balancing their wage bill. Toulouse have the cash for the fee but will need to get creative to match his salary.

What’s Next
Both Ligue 1 sides are expected to submit formal offers in the coming days, with Chelsea pushing for a quick resolution before the final phase of the transfer window. If neither club matches the financial package, the Blues may have to reconsider their stance on a loan exit.
Should Chelsea lower their demands to get David Datro Fofana off the books — or hold firm on their €5m valuation?
