Curtis Jones has delivered an emotional farewell to Liverpool supporters after ending his 16-year association with the club to complete a move to Inter Milan for around £30million.

The 25-year-old joined Liverpool's academy as a youngster and progressed all the way into the first team, making more than 200 appearances and winning six major trophies.

Now Jones is preparing for a new challenge in Serie A after spending the majority of his life at Liverpool.

Jones says goodbye after 16 years

Jones confirmed his departure with a heartfelt message on social media.

“After 16 years, it’s time to say goodbye,” he wrote.

“I came here as a kid with a dream of playing for Liverpool, and I’ve been lucky enough to actually live that dream.”

The midfielder explained just how significant Liverpool has been throughout his life.

“This club is all I’ve ever known. I came here as a kid and I’m leaving as a man with a family of my own.”

Jones also highlighted becoming a father during his time at Liverpool, explaining that the club has now become part of his family's story as well as his own.

More than 200 Liverpool appearances

Jones leaves Anfield having achieved what he dreamed about when first joining the academy.

The midfielder made more than 200 senior appearances, scoring 22 goals and collecting six major honours.

Those trophies included two Premier League titles, while Jones established himself as a regular member of Liverpool's first-team squad after progressing through the academy.

He thanked the coaches and academy staff who helped develop him, along with the teammates he shared the dressing room with throughout his career.

“I’ve played with some unbelievable players and made friendships I know I’ll have for life,” Jones said.

Jones thanks Liverpool supporters

Jones reserved an important part of his farewell for the Liverpool fans who supported him throughout his career.

“Thank you to the fans that stuck by me and always supported me,” he said. “I will always be one of you.”

The midfielder is now looking forward to beginning the next stage of his career with Inter Milan, but made clear that leaving Anfield does not change his connection with his boyhood club.

“Liverpool will always be a massive part of me. I came here as a kid with a dream and I’m leaving having lived it.”

He ended his message with one final thank you and Liverpool's famous sign-off: “YNWA.”
