Manchester City offer Claudio Echeverri to AC Milan after loan struggles

AC Milan have been offered the chance to sign Manchester City youngster Claudio Echeverri as the Premier League champions look to find the Argentine playmaker a new club this summer.

The 20-year-old endured a frustrating 2025/26 campaign on loan in Germany and Spain, leaving Manchester City eager to secure another temporary move that will provide him with regular first-team football.

According to reports in Italy, intermediaries have now presented Echeverri to Milan, although the Serie A giants are not currently prioritising a deal.

Echeverri arrived at Manchester City as one of South America's brightest young talents, but his development stalled last season.

Loan spells at Bayer Leverkusen and later Girona failed to produce the breakthrough City had hoped for.

The Argentine managed just one goal in 17 appearances during his time at Girona after struggling for opportunities under Erik ten Hag and Kenneth Hjulmand in Germany.

City are now keen to send the attacking midfielder out on loan again rather than consider a permanent sale.

According to the Italian report, intermediaries have approached AC Milan about signing Echeverri.

The Rossoneri are searching for an attacking player with similar qualities, but the deal is complicated by squad registration rules and other transfer priorities.

Following the signing of Andrej Kostic from Partizan Belgrade, Milan have only one remaining non-EU registration slot available and are currently considering alternative targets.

Former club River Plate would welcome Echeverri back on loan and remain keen to reunite with the youngster.

However, Manchester City's preference is for another temporary spell in one of Europe's top leagues, believing the midfielder's development would benefit more from regular football at a higher level.

City invested around €25 million to sign Echeverri and remain convinced he can fulfil his enormous potential with the right pathway.

Manchester City remain committed to Echeverri's long-term future but believe another European loan is the best option for his development. While AC Milan have been offered the chance to sign him, the Italian club currently appear focused on other targets, leaving the youngster's next destination unresolved.

Manchester City will continue assessing loan opportunities for Echeverri during pre-season, while Milan decide whether to revisit the proposal later in the transfer window if their other targets fail to materialise.
