Manchester City owners linked with €90m move for Colombian giants Millonarios

Manchester City owners City Football Group are being linked with a potential takeover of Colombian giants Millonarios as the Bogotá club attracts growing interest from international investors.

Reports in Colombia have suggested CFG could be considering an offer worth around €90million (£78.5m), which would add another major South American club to their global network.

However, while there is evidence that a genuine sale process is developing around Millonarios, the specific claims surrounding CFG and the €90m figure remain less firmly established.

El Futbolero has published several reports connecting CFG with Millonarios, including claims that an offer of approximately €90m could be under consideration.

Those reports have prompted wider discussion in Colombia about how Millonarios could operate within the City Football Group structure, including potential implications for the club's academy and leadership.

At this stage, though, there appears to be no original source confirming that CFG have formally submitted such an offer.

What is clearer is that Millonarios' majority owners, Amber Capital, have been considering outside approaches.

Kapital Football Group have been more concretely linked with a takeover, with journalist Pipe Sierra reporting that discussions had reached an advanced stage.

Millonarios director Gustavo Serpa has also acknowledged receiving an “interesting” offer, although audits would be required before any transaction could progress.

There is an obvious strategic argument for City Football Group to consider Colombia.

CFG already control Bahia in Brazil and Montevideo City Torque in Uruguay, while also maintaining a partnership with Bolivia's Club Bolívar. Colombia would provide another significant foothold in South American football.

Millonarios would represent a high-profile entry point.

The Bogotá side are one of Colombia's historic clubs and possess an established academy that has developed players including Óscar Cortés, Néiser Villarreal, Jorge Carrascal and Carlos Andrés Gómez.

Interestingly, Kapital's own proposed multi-club structure has reportedly taken inspiration from CFG's model.

For now, Millonarios attracting international takeover interest appears considerably more established than claims of a €90m Manchester City owners bid. The next development will be whether CFG's reported interest progresses into something concrete.

The key question is whether City Football Group's reported interest develops into a formal proposal.

Millonarios' ownership situation is already attracting serious attention, but stronger confirmation will be required before the reported €90m CFG move can be treated as an established bid.
