Chelsea ready to sell Garnacho one year after £40m transfer

Chelsea are prepared to sell Alejandro Garnacho just one year after signing the winger from Manchester United for around £40 million.

The Argentina international is available for a permanent transfer as Xabi Alonso begins reshaping his first-team squad. Chelsea will reportedly reject loan proposals and wait for clubs to make offers that allow them to recover a significant part of their investment.

Garnacho remains under contract until 2032, but an inconsistent debut season has left his future at Stamford Bridge in serious doubt.

Garnacho made 43 appearances during his first season with Chelsea but failed to establish himself as an automatic starter.

The 22-year-old scored eight goals in all competitions, including only one in the Premier League and one in the Champions League. His campaign also unfolded during another period of managerial instability at Stamford Bridge, with three different head coaches taking charge.

Alonso's arrival has now brought a fresh assessment of the squad, and Garnacho is among the players Chelsea are willing to move on.

The club's position is clear. A loan exit is not currently under consideration, with Chelsea seeking a permanent deal instead.

Manchester United would also have an interest in the final transfer fee after reportedly securing a 10 per cent sell-on clause when Garnacho moved to London.

Despite his difficult season, Garnacho continues to attract interest from Serie A.

Napoli, Juventus and AC Milan have all been linked with the winger, while Roma are reportedly interested in a loan. Chelsea's refusal to consider temporary proposals could make that option difficult unless the Italian club change their approach.

No formal negotiations have started, but Chelsea believe Garnacho's age and potential will generate permanent interest as the transfer window develops.

His availability comes during a wider squad overhaul. Tyrique George is set to join Everton permanently, while several other first-team players could reportedly leave for the right price.

Chelsea also have made it clear that several prominent first-team names, including Trevoh Chalobah, Filip Jorgensen, Andrey Santos, Malo Gusto, and even possibly midfield star Enzo Fernandez will all be permitted to leave for the right price.

Chelsea will now wait to see whether Garnacho's admirers turn their interest into permanent bids.

The winger's long contract means the Blues do not need to accept a cut-price offer, but Alonso's squad rebuild has created a clear route towards an exit. Interest from Italy could shape the next stage of the transfer race.
