Manchester United's struggles continued on Saturday as Chelsea secured a 2-0 Premier League victory at Stamford Bridge, extending Michael Carrick's side's winless run to nine matches across all competitions.

Second-half goals from Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer handed Xabi Alonso's side three points, increasing the pressure on Carrick following another disappointing result.

United have now gone nine consecutive matches without victory for the first time since 1988.

Morgan Rogers breaks Manchester United resistance

United arrived in London following a 3-0 home defeat against Bournemouth, with Carrick already facing questions about his future.

The visitors produced an encouraging first-half performance, creating opportunities while restricting Chelsea's attack.

However, the match changed five minutes after the restart.

Rogers collected the ball following Roméo Lavia's intervention, drove towards goal and finished past Senne Lammens to give Chelsea the lead.

The breakthrough left United chasing the game after a promising opening period.

Martínez sent off as Cole Palmer doubles Chelsea lead

United's hopes of responding suffered another setback when Lisandro Martínez received a second yellow card following an incident involving Wesley Fofana.

The referee awarded Chelsea a penalty after reviewing the incident, leaving Carrick's side with ten men.

Palmer converted from the spot to double Chelsea's advantage.

Estêvão Willian also caused problems for United's defence, having an earlier effort ruled out for offside.

Despite their encouraging first half, United struggled to recover after conceding twice and losing Martínez.

Michael Carrick faces growing pressure

The defeat extended United's winless sequence to nine matches in all competitions, matching a run last recorded in 1988.

Carrick's position had already attracted scrutiny following a difficult start to the season, and another loss will only intensify questions about his future.

Chelsea, meanwhile, secured an important victory under Alonso after a challenging run of results.
