Former Chelsea midfielder Cesare Casadei has admitted that his move to Stamford Bridge may have come too early in his career, but insists his experience in England helped him develop.

The 23-year-old struggled to establish himself at Chelsea after arriving from Inter Milan in 2022, eventually returning to Italy with Torino three years later.

Now rebuilding his career in Serie A, Casadei believes the challenges he faced in England have made him a more mature player.

Casadei reflects on difficult Chelsea spell

Speaking to Sportmediaset, the Italian midfielder acknowledged that joining Chelsea represented a significant step up at a young age.

“My time in England was important for my career and beyond,” Casadei explained.

“From a footballing perspective, it probably cost me some time because I took a huge step given the experience I had back then.”

Chelsea signed Casadei for approximately €14.86million after his impressive performances in Inter's youth system.

However, opportunities at Stamford Bridge proved limited.

He made just 18 appearances for Chelsea, accumulating 496 minutes, and never played more than 15 minutes in a Premier League match.

Torino move helps midfielder rebuild career

Casadei spent time on loan at Reading before enjoying a more productive spell with Leicester City under Enzo Maresca.

He made 25 appearances for Leicester during their successful promotion campaign but struggled to translate that progress into regular football at Chelsea.

A €13million move to Torino in 2025 provided the opportunity to restart his career in Italy.

Casadei has since impressed in Serie A, with reports suggesting Chelsea are monitoring his progress again.

The midfielder believes his experiences abroad have helped him return to Italian football with greater maturity.

“Now I’m back in Italy with a different level of maturity.”

He also suggested English clubs are generally more willing to give talented young players opportunities than their Italian counterparts.
